Black Cross Aviation was originally conceived to manufacture parts, airframes, and Jumo 213A engines for new build FW 190D-9 aircraft. While that is still our long-term goal there is a need within the Warbird industry for a foundry that produces aluminum and magnesium castings specifically for the Warbird restorer and historical replica builder. If you have an original drawing, an original part, or both we can reproduce it.
All patterns and core boxes are fabricated in house. Our foundry uses "green sand" in making molds and our molds are rammed by hand. We are not a production-oriented foundry per se; we cater to the restorer/builder who only needs one or a few parts.
Our finished products are offered as completely machined parts; machined either to the original print specifications or to the customer's specifications. All the customer must do, in most cases, is apply a surface finish and install the part.
We also offer complete machine shop services for those who need machined parts but are without the necessary skills.
Black Cross Aviation owner Barry Anderson was trained by the US Navy in the Aviation Structural Mechanic (Structures) (AMS) rating. He spent a total of 7 years and 10 months, working on the CT39E Saberliner during a shore duty tour, and then working on the F14A and F14B Tomcat as an airframe technican in Fighter Squadron 211 (VF211) onboard the carrier USS Nimitz (CVN68) during a sea duty tour. He made one deployment aboard Nimitz in support of Operation Desert Storm in 1991. After the military he attended trade school and learned the machinist/tool and die maker trade. He has worked in the machinist trade since. Over the years he also learned the foundry trade working with his father in a small bronze foundry.
If you need castings or machined parts for your warbird or historical replica project please contact us. Our goal is to satisfy our customers with high quality and historically accurate parts.
